It’s easy to fall into the trap of using the same AI chatbot or assistant for every task. However, not all AI tools are built the same. Every AI agent excels at different tasks. To get the best results, you need to choose the best AI agent for your specific task.

TL:DR Skip to the Summary to get the recommendation of AI tools for different tasks.

Ask someone for the best AI platform, tool, agent, or chatbot and you’ll get different answers from everyone. That’s because everyone has their own favorites. The problem is while many AI agents market themselves as the only AI tool you’ll ever need, none of them is actually a perfect all-in-one tool

Take ChatGPT for example. It’s a great general AI assistant for light research, brainstorming, and chatting about random questions on your mind. But, it’s not the best at image or video generation. It can do those things, but you’ll get better results with other tools.

Every chatbot, agent, and AI model is different. Take advantage of that.

    Writing and Marketing

While most AI chatbots handle basic writing tasks, they don’t always do well with making it sound human or catering to a specific type of copy, such as marketing or social media.

    Writing with Claude.

For text-based content creation, stick with:

    • ChatGPT – It’s ideal for creating outlines, performing research, editing content, and humanizing AI content. If you want even better results, especially for deeper research and higher message limits, you’ll want to upgrade, which starts at $8/month. With the right hacks, the free version does well enough.
    • Claude – It excels at complex writing tasks, including creative writing. It also works well for research, which makes it useful for technical writing too. For writing, the free plan is fine. For better research, upgrade starting at $17/month.
    • Grammarly – While Grammarly can create content, it’s the must-have tool for AI content editing. Find mistakes, change tone, and rewrite in seconds. For most AI features, you’ll need to upgrade, starting at $12/month. If you want a grammar check without AI, try Harper.
    • Jasper and Writesonic – I’m putting these two together since they’re both for writing and managing marketing copy. The downside is neither is free, though they offer free trials. As all-in-one marketing content AI chatbots, they’re hard to beat, though.

    Research and Analysis

    Searching on Perplexity

Most AI chatbots offer web research, but some do it far better than others. If you need deeper research and analysis, try your prompts with:

    • Consensus – Unlike AI models trained on everything they can find on the Internet, Consensus uses verified research papers to provide answers for academic research. You get a consensus based around millions of research papers along with the ability to filter by date for the most up-to-date information.
    • Perplexity – Verifying sources is critical when using AI for research. Perplexity does an outstanding job of citing sources better than most other AI chatbots. The free tier is incredibly generous, but for heavy users, it might be worth upgrading for $20/month for higher limits. It even has its own browser.

You can also use ChatGPT, Gemini, and Mistral Le Chat’s deep research modes. These are usually restricted to premium users only.

    Image Creation

I’ve tried some AI chatbots to generate images and the results were laughable at best. Others made it difficult to tell AI was even used. While ChatGPT’s GPT-4o and DALL·E 3 models do well, they’re still not the best options for more detailed, realistic images.

    Using Nano Banana in Gemini

    Instead, try:

    • Google Gemini (Nano Banana) – Nano Banana is one of the easiest to use and works well for photo realistic images. It’s also free to use, though there are limits to the free plan. For generating text in images, I highly suggest upgrading to the premium plan, starting at $20/month. It even works with Google Lens.
    • Adobe Firefly – For any Adobe users, Firefly is a no-brainer. Easily create detailed images, fine-tune details, and incorporate creations directly into other Adobe apps. It works within Photoshop or in the standalone app. Upgrade for $10/month to create more than 25 images per month.
    • Stable Diffusion – This is one of the most feature rich options for image creation. There are multiple ways to use it, including the web version. It’s open source and well worth learning to create stunning images. The free version does include watermarks, so you’ll want to upgrade for $10/month.

    Video Creation

Trying to choose the best AI chatbots for video creation comes down to the type of videos you want to create.

Black and white kitten video generated with Sora.
    Generated using Sora app

    The best overall options include:

    • Sora – You can access Sora via ChatGPT or the Sora app. It’s one of the most popular for creating more realistic video clips and even stylized clips. It’s free for short clips, though longer, high-resolution videos require the $200/month ChatGPT Pro subscription.
    • Google Veo 3 – You’ll find this within Gemini or the Google AI Studio. It creates both hyper-realistic and stylized videos easily with prompts. Try it out for free with some hard limits, or upgrade for higher limits starting at $20/month.
    • Adobe Firefly – For brand safe AI videos, this is your best option. Create basic, yet high quality clips for free. But, for editing and more advanced AI creations, you’ll need to upgrade starting at $10/month. Once again, this integrates with other Adobe products.

    Productivity Integration

    Microsoft 365 Copilot upgrade message.

I love when I don’t have to sign up for yet another app, so if you want AI chatbots to integrate with productivity tools you already use, opt for:

    • Microsoft 365 Copilot – It’s already integrated into Windows and for Microsoft 365 users, you can use it directly in most Office products. It works well for writing, editing, images, and even videos. Full integration requires a Microsoft 365 subscription, or use the Copilot app separately for free.
    • Google Gemini – If you prefer Google Workspace, use Gemini instead. You just need a premium Google Workspace plan to use it. Otherwise, it works similarly to Copilot in Microsoft 365. You can also disable it if you don’t like it.

    Summary

Test out free and trial versions to help you choose the best AI chatbots for your needs. Mix and match to brainstorm, create, and edit all your creations.
